Web design projects by Verdant Spark featuring Shopify stores, Squarespace, and WordPress websites.
Black & Gold Oil
Black & Gold Oil are a local East Lothian food producer who needed a new website with e-commerce functionality. Shopify was the obvious choice and the simple, elegant theme used highlights the fabulous new product photography by Emma Martin Photography. A recipe blog was created to showcase the many uses of the products and the new local pickup and delivery options available within Shopify have been used to encourage local customers.
You might recognise one half of Verdant Spark in this one – Lisa is a beekeeper in her spare time and needed a way to sell the honey the bees produce. Having run a Shopify store for her last business it was a no-brainer to use Shopify again!
This site is a great example of how you can use the free Debut theme and customise it to suit your products. Our customisations included adding accordion sections to product descriptions and changing the mobile hero layout.
The Crafty Kit Company
The Crafty Kit Company are a local company in East Lothian, but with an international reach. Having operated for the last 7 years using an OpenCart based solution, the operation was stretching the limits of that platform. Together with Jo, we redesigned the site to freshen it and migrate all of her products and core content into Shopify, with particular focus on the user experience for her key user persona to ensure that all collections and products are easy to find.
Kushboo Soaps required a new e-commerce website to replace their old WooCommerce site. Their new Shopify store tells the story of the brand, highlighting the products and gifts available and also emphasises the charitable aims of the company.
The Mad Scrapper
The Mad Scrapper, a scrapbooking and craft supplies store in Haddington, needed a more poweful e-commerce solution as their previous WooCommerce site was slow and not suited to a store with a large number of SKUs. A Shopify store was the obvious solution and our main focus was user experience, making sure customers are able to find the products they are looking for easily and quickly but also encouraging them to browse based on product category and brand.

Verdant Spark replaced their Wix website with a Shopify store with custom development of an application to allow ordering for collection or delivery within a specified geographical area.
Crafty Kit Company Trade Store
This Shopify store mimics the look and feel of The Crafty Kit Company consumer store but required custom development to fulfill the requirements of the client; that customers must apply and be approved before being able to view wholesale pricing and place orders. To aid the transition process to the new store, a customer support button was added so Verdant Spark could deal with support issues, saving the client time.
Verdant Spark recently undertook a redesign of the Spice Pots Shopify store. Spice Pots are an East Lothian business that make delicious spice blends. Their old site needed a refresh so we installed a new theme which was then customised to suit their brand and products.
Verdant Spark created custom landing pages for their two blogs so they could group blog posts into categories that would be easy for users to navigate.
The Big Blu
A fantastic East Lothian business hit by Covid-19 lockdown, The Big Blu needed to rapidly shift from in person sales to online ordering and delivery.
The work included custom development of delivery day management based on postcode entered, and a bespoke back end admin Shopify application that aggregates orders to show daily totals of pizzas ordered so the client knows exactly how many bases to make the day before.
Chris has also done an amazing job reformulating his pizzas so they are initially fired in The Big Blu’s oven and then topped, so the customer just has to bake in their own oven.
We recently created a Shopify online store for Bostock Bakery in East Linton. Due to Covid-19 they needed to rapidly shift to online ordering and delivery.
The work included custom development of a date picker for delivery day selection, and a back end Shopify application that aggregates orders to show daily totals of items ordered so that the bakery knows order volumes to bake for each day’s delivery.
